SEATTLE'S CREATIVE
OF THE MONTHJohanna Schoemaker
Johanna is passionate about exploring the emotional connections between objects and people. Her explorations in design started with studies at one of the oldest jewelry schools in Germany – Staatliche Zeichenakademie Hanau. Curiosity about designs impact beyond aesthetics led her to study Industrial Design at the University of Wuppertal, Germany. During her studies her focus was on consumer products and lighting. Currently she works at Artefact, enjoying the work in multidisciplinary teams to design for a preferable future. -
WHAT IS DESIGN?
SDF defines design as a process of making that has the unique goal of synthesizing various trajectories in order to create an end product with a human being at the center. Scale, complexity and discipline can all vary, but the operative goal of design is to transform understandings of technology, science, systems, material attributes, psychology, etc into things for people. Simply put, design is the interface between the world and people. -
